Quarries

General Comments:

Killerton stone was known as one of the 'Exeter Traps'. These outcrops which frequently form rounded hills extend south as far as Dunhideock, north beyond Tiverton, east as far as Killerton and west beyond Hatherleigh. The example in our collection was taken from Killerton Park in the Culm Valley. Killerton quarries were worked until the 19th century and are now abandonned on the north-east slope of the southernmost hill of Killerton Park.

Known Quarries: Killerton Park Quarries, Killerton.
