Quarries

General Comments:

The quarries at Anston were known to have been worked in the 19th century and an enquiry by the Royal Commission in 1939 chose this stone for the new Houses of Parliament. Much of this stone has worn well, but a few of the hard beds were interspersed with some that were not so hard, leading to serious decay (Watson 1987: 95).

Known Quarries: Anston Quarry, South Anston,
Harrycroft Quarry, South Anston,
Kiveton Park Quarries, South Yorkshire.
