General Comments:

Barrington stone is first mentioned coupled with Taynton Stone for New College bell tower in 1396-7, the next record is for St George's Chapel Windsor (1475-83) and in 1479-80, 93 loads went to Windsor from Little Barrington. In 1666, #30 worth of Barrington stone was bought for the construction of the Sheldonian Theatre, Oxford. It is presumed that Barrington Park c. 1735 was also built of stone from the local quarry (Arkell 1947: 71-72). The last we hear of Barrington stone was to face the inner walls of Corpus Christi College in 1804 which were much decayed (ibid.).
