General Colour Description:

Two types: grey with a slightly bluish tinge known as 'Light Sea Green' and greenish grey sold as 'Olive Green' (Clifton-Taylor & SImmons 1987: 161). Burlington Slate Ltd describes this stone as mid green often highlighted by contrasting veins.

Hand Specimen Description:

A medium grained, hard, compact slate with occasional quartz veins. It is well sorted with a hackly fracture.

General Comments:

This stone was originally a tuff, a volcanic ash deposit, it was subsequently metamorphosed to form a 'meta-tuff' slate.
