Hand Specimen Description: | A medium grained, hard, granular micaceous sandstone with rust coloured markings. It is a massive cross bedded stone which is well sorted with a rough feel. Individual stones show cross bedding but this is usually quite faint (McMillan 1999: 160). It is composed of up to 97% quartz grains with the mineral haematite (iron oxide) giving the gentle pink colour. |
