Quarries

General Comments:

It is believed that this stone was quarried in the vicinity of Clive, Shropshire since Roman times. This claim cannot be substantiated but certainly the quarries existed for the last ten centuries. Both red and white varieities of Grinshill stone were exploited but more recently the red stone has been replaced by the white (Ashurst & Dimes 1990: 76).

Known Quarries: Red Grinshill Quarry, Grinshill,
Bridge and Cureton Quarries, Grinshill.
