General Comments:

The quarries at Grinshill once supplied most of Shropshire but have reduced their production during the 20th century. They yielded large blocks which were well suited for architectural work. Today Grinshill stone is sold as slabs, sawn stone and walling (Stone Industries 1993: 63). It has also been used frequently in the last 20 years for restoration work. White Grinshill stone is regarded as the better quality of the two types. However both are very durable stones not affected by acid rain or air pollution (Building Research Establishment: n.d.).

Known Usage: Shrewsbury Castle, Shropshire,
Abbey Church, Shrewsbury,
Morton Corbet Castle, Shropshire.
