General Colour Description:

This stone varies considerably in colour, but two main types are common. Heworth 'Brown' a light yellow/brown stone speckled with tiny dark ferruginous spots, and Heworth 'Blue' a blue grey shade (Watson 1911: 130)

The example in our collection is Heworth 'Brown' Stone which is a hard, granular, moderately well sorted, medium grained sandstone.
