Poulton was seen as the chief centre for production of 'slates' until the end of the 19th century (Arkell 1947: 147). Poulton quarries were to be found on the west side of the road between Poulton and Betty's Grave, but are not longer worked (Richardson 1933: 74). Two further quarries could be seen in 1933, a little over a half a mile north of Poulton Church but these were only worked on an occasional basis (ibid.). |
