Introduction

Suffolk County Council Archaeological Service Digital Archives

Suffolk County Council Archaeological Service (SCCAS) is the final repository for all archaeological archives excavated in Suffolk. SCCAS collects and curates archaeological finds and their documentary archives generated via commercial, research and community fieldwork. Suffolk County Council has collected archaeological material from the county since 1974.

Our role is to collect and curate Suffolk’s archaeological archives and ensure their accessibility to researchers and members of the public in perpetuity. SCCAS collections include archives of regional and national importance, for example those from the Middle Saxon sites at Brandon and Snape, the Roman small towns of Scole and Pakenham, and large multi-period sites such as Flixton Quarry.

Our documentary and finds archives are stored in our offices at Bury St. Edmunds and from April 2022 all digital archives are to be deposited with the ADS to ensure their long-term preservation and accessibility. Digital archives deposited prior to April 2022 are held by SCCAS.
