Excavation in the summer of 1976 at Brewery Yard, Reigate (TQ 2537 5012) located the channel of a previously unknown watercourse flowing across Bell Street to the north of the present culverted stream. The deliberate filling of the watercourse is shown to be closely datable to the late 16th century and may have been connected with events occurring at Reigate Priory. The excavation was carried out in advance of the proposed ring-road construction.
