This report describes the excavation of a tile kiln with an oven built from great brick and great brick voussoirs with unusual, probably unique, oven floor tiles. A date is suggested, from documentary and archaeological evidence, of c 1225-1275 and this is supported by archaeomagnetic dating which places the kiln in the period AD 1230â1280. The substantial evidence for the roof tile industry in the Farnham area is considered in some detail.
