South Acre, Norfolk, 21/1/1971
Visit pits at Bartholomew's Hills and those immediately West of South Acre, where many white-patinated flakes and cores of Clactonian aspect were found in the 1930's (Sainty and Watson, Norf. Arch. 28 (1944) 183-8), the largest collection now being in Norwich Museum.
The pit is no longer worked but was until recently, and there are still large mounds of sand around the screening plant. From conversation with workmen it seems that most of the discoveries were made at the west end of the pit, now a young conifer plantation., (sketch plan of site location)
