We think:<\/b><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Walkover surveys e.g. Windfarm<\/li>\n<li>Thematic surveys\/studies e.g. Roman bath sites in the UK<\/li>\n<li>Linear projects e.g. Road\/rail schemes<\/li>\n<li>Large geophysical surveys<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0<strong>Can you add others?<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Recording and reporting:<\/h3>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>We propose to:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>have the area of the project\u00a0defined by a <em>boundary polygon<\/em> &#8211; either uploaded from as a GIS file (formats to be determined) or drawn on a map on screen.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">create only ONE record no matter how many HERs an event covers (this is not what happens now).<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li>each HER would be notified of the project (if they had opted to be).<\/li>\n<li>each HER can review the record and see who else had worked on it.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the record would be saved as successive <\/span><b>versions<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> if changes were made.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">BUT: The release of the report to the ADS Library and the record to other external databases would <\/span><b>not<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> be stopped by an individual HER that had not reviewed it.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other questions relating to investigation type:<\/span><\/h3>\n<h5>Walkover surveys e.g. Windfarm<\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For <\/span><b>Walkover surveys<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> e.g. Windfarms &#8211;<\/span> <b>Is the boundary of the full extent of the survey enough<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in these cases or would smaller investigation areas within the larger survey want to be defined? And if so how?<\/span><\/p>\n<h5>\u00a0Thematic Survey e.g. Roman bath sites in the UK<\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We can think of 2 ways to do this: <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Allow upload of a polygon for whole area &#8211; may be a region or even a country, but allow \u2018sub polygons\u2019 and sites to be included as well.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Do as for Linear projects below &#8211; have a parent record that covers the whole areas, then child OASIS records where the thematic survey had done further work. Individuals sites could then be passed on as monuments records. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Is there another way?<\/b><\/p>\n<h5>Linear projects e.g. Road\/rail schemes<\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Large scale and long-running projects with multiple events. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>each event entered as a separate OASIS record<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">THEN: related to an overarching \u2018parent\u2019 project \u2013 should parent project be identified by the OASIS ID or something else?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5>Large Geophysical Surveys<\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Entered on a survey-by-survey basis and related to a parent record as above.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So in the interests of keeping this post short enough to read\u00a0easily <em>(too late?)<\/em>\u00a0we have not gone into great detail but hopefully have covered enough to generate discussion.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Will these proposals work for:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">HER Officers?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Investigations Teams at National Heritage bodies (Historic England, Historic Environment Scotland, National Trust)?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Contractors doing large scale projects?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tell us your thoughts!<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you are an OASIS user or potential user we need your comments on how the new OASIS system will record large area surveys.
