The site lies in the Ravenshaw Wood Embankment and Shaw Lane section of the wider HS2 Scheme and covers an area of c. 25.6 ha. An initial evaluation proposed the excavation of 58 evaluation trenches targeted potential archaeological remains identified in geophysical survey and aerial photography assessments. As a result of the evaluation further work immediately continued in the form of a Strip, Map and Sample (SMS) excavation targeted on two areas. Area 1 (c. 0.35ha) targeted features identified within Trench 58 and Area 2 (c. 0.18ha) targeted features in Trench 5 (Figure 3). The SMS excavation uncovered pit alignments of at least 55 pits in two lengths running a north-east to south-west across Area 1 and confirmed the presence of a probable Iron Age roundhouse surviving as a double ring ditch and further examples of pits in Area 2. A small assemblage of pottery and flint were collected from these features.",AUTHOR,Matt,Walker,Connect,26,19-Sep-17,Connect/Fusion,Edinburgh,1st Issue/P01,,,,English,Microsoft Word Adobe Acrobat,2010,HS2 Ltd ,,,AUTHOR,Lucy,Whittingham,Connect,,,,,,,,,,,, ,,,EDITOR,Glenn,Rose,DJV,,,,,,,,,,,, ,,,EDITOR,Rob,Early,DJV,,,,,,,,,,,,
