We present an argument that these red lines correlate closely to medieval overland routes, which they therefore likely depict. This observation provides for important insights into the composition and development of the English and Welsh route network at a specific moment in time. Three layers are given: gough_red_lines is a schematic MultiLineString representation of the network of red lines on the map; gough_way_stations is a representation of the settlements connected by red lines as Point features; gough_routes is a ground-truthed representation of the historical routes and roads that match the red lines.",Eljas,Oksanen,University of Helsinki,Eljas,Oksanen,University of Helsinki,01.01.2015,26.07.2024,Country,England,south-west extent,151755,37055.9203,246500 km2,1.4 MB,Critical evidence-based assessment of historical routeways.,"Historical and archaeological research, visual assessment of historical routeways and roadlines dervied from modern and Early Modern cartographic material.
