Abstract:		 Reports results of excavation and watching brief, aimed primarily at determining the nature and extent of two ditches isolated in the evaluation. It is thought probable that the ditch related to the castle, but further excavation would be needed to prove it. There are notes on the `Medieval pottery' by Lucy Bown (11--16), a `Fired clay loomweight' by Alistair Barclay (17), a `Composite strap end with forked spacer' by Leigh Allen (17), and the `Animal bone' by Nicola Scott (19).
