Considers the gold disc from Donegal, received by the Ashmolean in 1696, in relation to allied objects from the British Late Neolithic and Bronze Age. Two types of discs are defined: a - with ladder-patterned cruciform motifs (Middle Beaker, middle 3rd millennium BC); b - the remainder (Late Beaker to MBA). Gold basket earrings and small plaques are in a similar category; all these objects are executed in rough freehand style. Metal groups are discussed and the early history of the Ballyshannon find is detailed. | ||||||
