Abstract:
The bead from a probable 1400-1200 BC context at Wilsford (Wilts) has been successively identified as glass (in 1812), stone, and glass again, this time with the aid of SEM and XRF analyses. Glasses of this type were manufactured to allow further testing. The unusual durability of the bead suggests a surprising level of technology for this early period.
