Calls for readier adoption in Anglo-Saxon studies of the methods and aims of prehistoric archaeology, particularly in view of considerable parallelism between AS and Iron Age manifestations. New directions in population studies are needed, even in cemetery excavation. Settlement archaeology such as that at Chalton, or on wet deposits like those of York, is at last revealing what has previously been missed. However, documents must also be used where they exist, and the AS tract The Gerefa, on estate management, is discussed in terms of the artefactual evidence it offers. | |||||
