Covers scheduling of ancient monuments, protection of historic wrecks and portable antiquities, as well as sources of funding from central and local government and developers. There is particular emphasis on the governmental and professional responses to developer funding, PPG 16 and the joint Code of Practice drawn up by the Standing Conference of Archaeological Unit Managers and the British Property Federation, with reference to other articles of legislation designed to protect the historic environment. With these in mind a list of future recommendations is given for increasing funding for, and legislative protection of, British archaeology. | |
