Abstract:		 Article explaining the investigation strategy for an area of rich cropmark sites near Beckford, Gloucestershire, in advance of quarrying. The recording of large salvage areas was designed to be accomplished at speed, whilst a number of representative sites were selected for full-scale excavation. In the seasons undertaken so far the emphasis has been on the pre-Roman Iron Age. In both the salvage and excavated areas a composite picture is emerging of large ditched enclosures defining areas of storage and rubbish pits, burials, timber buildings and smaller enclosures. The entire area became farmland during the Roman period, and parts of a field pattern and a trackway system have been recorded. A scattered inhumation cemetery of this period utilised marginal land.
