Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Evidence is accumulating of occupation in the area of the lower Roman town during 5th and 6th centuries. Excavations at Flaxengate showed that the city was revitalized in early AS times, and that some streets previously ascribed to the Roman period were part of a planned layout undertaken early in the Viking period. Detailed information has also been retrieved about post-Conquest domestic and commercial buildings, confirming documentary evidence for considerable prosperity in late 12th/early 13th centuries.
