Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
SP 724347 etc. The Maids Moreton axe is the largest in a group of at least 21 such axes found in the British Isles. They can be divided into two classes by the presence or absence of a side-loop. The looped form is the commonest, and of British origin; the unlooped axes can be compared with Continental examples. They were probably in use throughout the pre-Roman Iron Age. The shaft-hole axe is less common than the socketed axe in the pre-Roman Iron Age and appears to be a late introduction. Au(abr) | ||
