Comment on the significance of a further series of dates recently published in Radiocarbon, 13(1), 1970. Rigorous pre-treatment of samples and separation of fractions has proved the importance of knowing the exact nature and origin of field samples if contaminant effects are to be avoided. Neolithic sites discussed are Ballynagilly, graves at Knowth, Annaghmare, Ballymacdermot and Ballykeel, and the ritual site at Goodland. The Ballynagilly site also provided Bell Beaker dates. Several dates were obtained for the Beaghmore stone settings and for a round barrow at The Pubble (Londonderry) where particular care in sample treatment was required. Hillforts dated by 14C are Navan and Cathedral Hill (Armagh). Two crannogs, one at Teeshan and another at Mill Lough with "crannog ware", were dated. Viking material is so far absent, but dates for a rath at Mullaghbane (Tyrone) and a moated site at Kilmagoura (Cork) are reported, together with one for late occupation at Knowth.
