Abstract:
Willis's 1861 phasing can now be replaced, following a six-year programme of study, by a scheme of at least five phases between c 1085 and 1240. the Norman and Transitional choirs were of unusual form; the St Chad's Head and St Peter's chapel complex has relic-cult associations; the library pavement of c 1300 ranks among the half-dozen finest in English med churches; and there is a near-unique chance to study 17th century fabric.
