Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Reports on new survey of the only Welsh crannog yet known, together with fresh analysis of l9th century accounts of its discovery. It may be identified with Brecenanmere, and be a royal residence of the kings of Brycheiniog. A dump of stones is surrounded by two plank palisades dendro-dated to late 9th/early 10th centuries, though it may be a multi-period site. Its closest parallels are Irish. The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle mentions Brecenanmere, and a Llandaff charter indicates an estate of over 1000ha. Careful search may reveal more Welsh crannogs. | ||
