Abstract:
Describes a major research project which has opened up radically new perspectives on early Neolithic Britain (4000 to 3500 BC). The project has used Bayesian chronological modelling, allowing archaeological information to be combined with 'raw' radiocarbon dates to provide more precise results, in an extensive study which began by looking at southern British causewayed enclosures. As a result, some aspects of the period can now be measured at a scale of lifetimes or generations rather than the longue duree. Au/LD
