Abstract:
As part of an English Heritage research programme, a high-resolution 3D digital model of Stonehenge and its immediate landscape has been produced, using laser scanning supplemented by photogrammetry. Detailed analysis of the data and digital images has been undertaken by a multi-disciplinary team, revealing over 700 areas of stoneworking, rock art, graffiti, damage and restoration. This article describes the methodologies used for analysis and some of the new insights that have been gained into the working and treatment of the stones. Implications for our interpretation of the monument are also discussed. LD
