Television presenter Dan Snow is the Council for British Archaeology's new president. In this interview he talks about how his family background has shaped his perception of history, and how the distinction between historians and archaeologists is in a sense artificial. His current focus is on the archaeology of the First World War; many of the historical sources for the war are highly subjective, but archaeology brings a chance to reveal raw information on what conditions were like at the time, and is a corrective to political rhetoric.
