MOOCs -- 'massive open online courses' -- offer cheap university-level courses for thousands of students at a time. This article looks at two courses offered by UK university departments, outlining some of the contents, delivery methods, and benefits of the approach. The archaeology of Portus, a course on the maritime port of Imperial Rome run by the University of Southampton, is described by Earl, Keay, Mladenovic and Wheeler. England in the time of Richard III, run by the University of Leicester, is discussed by O'Sullivan and Moseley. LD | |
