Abstract:
This article presents a preliminary report on an exceptional Roman burial investigated within a field at Kelshall near Royston, Hertfordshire. The grave was discovered when a metal detectorist found some bronze vessels, and was subsequently excavated by archaeologists, revealing numerous additional grave goods, a hexagonal glass bottle containing cremated bone, and the remains of a possible low mound or cairn of flint nodules. The finds are described in detail in the article, and the burial is discussed in the context of other discoveries in the immediate vicinity and the wider area. LD
