Abstract:		 A stone circle near Sittaford Tor on Dartmoor, identified by an independent researcher in 2007, has been investigated by volunteers as part of the Heritage Lottery funded Moor than Meets the Eye scheme, a series of projects exploring the Dartmoor people and landscape. Thirty-one stones were uncovered, and many had collections of smaller boulders at one end which would have been packing stones, indicating that the megaliths were originally erect. Radiocarbon dates from charred heather stems beneath two of the stones suggest that these ones had fallen by around 2200--1950 BC. Although the results do not shed any light on when the stone circle was first erected they are nonetheless important, representing the first indicative dates for a major stone circle on Dartmoor. LD
