In this interview Cassie Newland describes how she came to study archaeology in her late twenties, and the effect this has had on her life. Her work has included excavating a Transit van, digging for television programme Time Team, consultancy work for the BBC, and an interdisciplinary PhD looking in detail at the origins of the elements making up a telecommunications cable along the east coast of Africa. She is currently undertaking post-doctoral research at King's College London, looking at attempts to lay cables across the Atlantic in the second half of the 19th century. LD | |
