Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
An article taken from the fourteenth McDonald Lecture delivered in November 2002 at the McDonald Institute, University of Cambridge. Considers the tension between the interpretation of specific structures, monuments and deposits as the result of either ritual or practical activities in the past. Also, that between an archaeology that focuses on subsistence and adaptation and one that emphasises cognition, meaning and agency. It suggests that these tensions arise from an inadequate conception of ritual itself. | ||
