The abstract describing the content of the publication or report
Abstract:		 The `Monk's Boat' from Lough Lene, Co Westmeath, is carvel built with pegged mortice and tenon joinery. The yew tenons were dated to within a calibrated date range of 400-100 bc. A construction date during the first century AD is postulated although it could be earlier. It is the first example of this Mediterranean tradition to be found outside the Roman provinces and implies either an example of direct import or the result of a Mediterranean builder working in Ireland.
