Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
An account of the investigation of the pit alignment, which is associated with a complex of linear ditches which are now levelled by cultivation but remain visible on air photographs. The excavation tactics are explained and the two oblong pits described. The snail shell evidence is used to support the view that the pits were left open, eventually to be filled by natural accumulation. No artefacts were recovered, although the long bone of a horse, found standing on end within the fill of one pit, may have been so placed for a non-utilitarian purpose. One pit was partially truncated by a medieval furrow. The report concludes with a general discussion of pit alignments. | ||||||||||||
