Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
The author argues that the impact of the Roman invasion of Britain in AD 43 on the social, economic and technical development of the countryside can be seen in the adoption of Roman architectural features in buildings and new culinary habits reflected in the pottery. The more successful and wealthy farmers embraced a greater conversion to these influences particularly during the third and fourth centuries. This affluence can be linked with the fertile humic rendzinic soils and chalk downlands of the study area, with the nearby Roman road providing easy access to the major markets. | ||||||||
