TL 816898. Presents results of 14C determinations on over 100 charcoal and antler samples obtained 1972-6 from different parts of the site. The large-scale exploitation of flint by means of galleried mines now appears to date to a relatively short period, 2100-1800 BC, with open-cast quarrying continuing to c 1650 BC. Intermittent occupation continued until an intensive BA occupation, unrelated to flint extraction, began c 1000 BC. No evidence was found for an early mining period antedating the galleried mines. | ||||||
