Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
A follow-up to earlier work (see also 86/1262) considering new evidence from the Oxford area as well as nationwide developments in the perception of the Pleistocene sequence in Britain. The time-scale has extended and a far more detailed succession of climatic stages has been recognised. Discoveries in the Upper Thames Valley have made an important contribution to this process. The author discusses the local Palaeolithic material, with reference to its wider context. Most major components of the British Lower and Middle Palaeolithic are represented in the Oxford region; Upper Palaeolithic material remains very scarce, though one new site of considerable interest has come to light since the previous report at Gatehampton Farm (Goring). | |||||||
