The article examines domestic furnishings and organisation in dwellings between 1598 and 1618, using the evidence provided by wills and probate inventories. Three forms of analysis are made: the relationship between wealth, status and size of dwelling; the norms of furnishing in dwellings of different sizes; and the domestic culture of individual dwellings.
