The author describes evidence from a collection of nineteenth-century letters which indicates that human remains from the excavation in 1857-8 of a long mound on White Horse Hill, Uffington, were variously disposed of by the excavators, Edwin Martin-Atkins and John Thurnam, some being reburied by Martin-Atkins' son in the churchyard of Kingston Lisle church. | |||||||
