Abstract:		 Reports excavations in advance of water-pipe laying, centring on two areas where ploughing had cut through the Roman strata leaving only deeply-cut features unaffected. A conventional phasing for the site was subsequently not possible and the sequence of activity presented is therefore based on the few stratigraphic relationships that could be established, such dating evidence as was available, and comparison with the results of earlier work at Usk. The road system to the south of the fortress appeared in both of the areas excavated. Cobble spread, hearth, gullies, a latrine, and evidence for structural remains were found. Small finds included: `The coins' by R Hudson (260); `Copper-alloy object' by G Lloyd-Morgan (260); `Ironwork' by I Scott (260); `The glass' by D Brennan (260); `Shale bracelet' by S Greep (260); `Brick' by J Compton (260--1); `Animal bone' by M Locock (261); and `The pottery' by P Webster (261--6).
