Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
A paper providing information on a particular type of pendant -- namely that fashioned from the crown or burr of the red deer antler. The pendants are divided into seven sub-groups, forms 1-3 being undecorated and 4-7 bearing a phallic motif. They are thought to have been talismans, with both the phallic symbols and use of antler representing fertility. There is a chronology, as well as details of distribution for the various types. There is an `Addendum' (87) noting three further examples, distribution maps for undecorated (88), and decorated (89) types, and a `Catalogue' (90-7) arranged numerically by type. | |
