Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Presents a quantitative analysis of dated groups of pottery. Trends observed correlate with other types of evidence from the period suggesting the methodology to be useful and a reliable index. The most salient pattern is the progressive decline in frequency of IA/Transitional pottery so that by the turn of the second century AD a strong seemingly universal Romanisation of the assemblages had occurred. There is an appendix providing `The sizes of the pottery groups forming the sample in terms of absolute quantities (sherds of amphora. . .excluded)' (219--21). | ||||
