Combined data suggests a substantial defended settlement lying to the north of the present road from Sturton-le-Steeple to the river bank. There are details of excavations at Vicarage Gardens between 1968--70, excavations by W B Clark between 1954--56, and aerial reconnaissance. The finds section begins with `The coins' by T O'Connor (264), followed by `The small finds' by M Dearne (264--7) including details of copper-alloy, iron, bone, glass objects, and window and vessel glass. `The samian' by B R Hartley & B Dickinson (267--9), `The mortaria' by K F Hartley (269--72), `The coarse and colour-coated pottery' by P C Buckland & T O'Connor (272--83), and `Anglo-Saxon pottery' by Gavin Kinsley (283--4) complete the paper. | ||||||||
