Abstract:
Reports the discovery in 1989 of a relief sculpture fashioned from local sandstone, probably votive in nature and depicting three full-length figures. Found near the rear of several small timber structures fronting a gravel road and close to a group of inhumations, its relation to its surroundings is unclear, and it is thought that it was robbed from its original location. The piece exhibits knowledge of funerary/votive reliefs of the north-western provinces of Europe, but also characteristics of British workmanship. It can be broadly stylistically dated to the late-third to early-fourth century AD.
