Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Records a unique survival of two early steam engines in situ. Anomalies in the field remains of the rotative beam engine were explained by documents which indicated that the engine had been originally built to pump as well as wind, and that the vertical winding engine was a later installation. The importance of correlating field and documentary evidence is thus demonstrated. An attempt has also been made to trace the evolution of pumping and winding systems manufactured by the Neath Abbey Iron Company and to set the rotative engine in its technological context.
