A small medieval monastery, St Adrian's Priory on the Isle of May, is being investigated in its entirety in a project led by Fife Regional Council. So far excavation centred on the monastic church has revealed a post-medieval smithy and forge, a burial, and large quantities of artefacts, including fragments possibly of Scarborough pottery. Work will eventually include the investigation of an adjacent seventeenth-century settlement and a programme of environmental sampling, the latter carried out in association with Scottish Natural Heritage. | |||||||||
