Reports on the excavation of the site of a Roman road. Small-scale quarrying of Dolomite Conglomerate appears to have occurred over a long period of time, from the Late Iron Age through until the early-second century AD. The identification of flint, chert and two sherds of Bronze Age pottery attest to prehistoric activity in the area. The remains of between four and seven infants were uncovered, none of which were found in surviving grave cuts. One of these burials was associated with a cluster of finds, including: a complete trumpet brooch; a worked bone object; a copper alloy armlet; and several coins dating to the late-third century AD. The road appears to have been constructed on a NW-SE alignment bearing towards the hillfort at Blaise (with its Romano-British occupation and Late Roman temple). The site was apparently in decline during the Late Roman period, although the road was still in use (with an area of surface repair being interpreted). There is no evidence of post-Roman occupation.
